Hello,
Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet) died today and I’d like to revisit a mix of his I made a few years ago.
Captain Beefheart is very important to me, and I always try to push his music onto other people, so it was only a matter of time before I overwhelmed you with a whole mix of his music. I know it’s not for everyone, and I can respect that, but everyone should at least give it a chance because for me, personally, it affects like nothing else.
I bought the album Trout Mask Replica, by Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band, when I was a freshman in high school. It took years and years for this particular album to work its’ way into me but now, 11 years after I purchased it, I regard it as one of my favorite albums of all time. Captain Beefheart is one of those rare artists that seem to get better and better with each repeated listen. Once I really got the Captain, I really got the Captain. Does that make any sense? This mix here is career-spanning and has the representation of one track from each of the 13 officially released CB albums.

Excellent dedicative post. Sorry about your loss. Are you selling all those albums on Ebay now? I bet they’d fetch a pretty penny. Just kidding, that’d be wrong – of you… I mean I’d do it, but you’re a real fan.
you can tell that that photo was taken by Anton Corbijn. Stikingly similar to U2’s joshua tree cover
Absolutely true…have you seen the short doc Anton did about Don?
