Hello again,

A lot has been going on over the last month or so but I’ve managed to get this one nice early 70’s African & Brazilian funk-psych mix together for ya. There are some really nice cookers in this mix that have been destroying me daily for the last couple months…I simply can’t stop cranking them on high-fi the second I get in the door after work..Music like this really makes me wish I could seriously dance. Oh, and there are some early James Brown tunes in here as well.

I hit a pedestrian bulb-out a few weeks ago on my bicycle while biking at night. It was a bad wreck, one of the worst I’ve been in for sure, but somehow I walked away with only emotional scarring and a beat-up bike and helmet. I know these bulb-outs probably won’t disappear anytime soon but I decided to write a letter to the newspaper and they published it, so maybe city official folks will start rethinking these things before they put more in. This Missoula woman wasn’t as lucky as I was.

I’m heading outta town for a bit so I’ll see you in August.

Have a nice one, Collin

Hi.

Seems like all I’ve wanted to listen to for the last few weeks is lo-fi garage rock, the more mood the better. This mix starts out with some of the cream of the crop for me. A lot of truly haunting songs from bands that have almost completely faded into obscurity, many of them only releasing a few 45’s in their day anyway. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to the song “My Girl” by The Vandals over the last week. After the spooky garage rock tunes we head into a short set of psych songs featuring The Autoharp, an incredible instrument with a beautifully eerie quality that was used by a number of psych-folk bands in the 60’s. Lastly, we round it out with a couple of folk tunes, including one by the Legendary Missoula artist JR Rummel. (thanks to VVR for the Mp3!). Hope you are well, collin

Artist / Song (most of these are singles, culled from 45rpm records)

The Smubbs / Down On The Corner / 1966

The Younts Bros., Inc. / Love Is A Game / 1967

The Cobras / I’m Hurtin’ / 1964

The Vandals / My Girl / 1967 (My Jam!)

Gordon / Send for Me / 196?

The Distortions / Can You Tell? / 196?

Tresa Leigh / Until Then / 196? (Makes you wanna die!)

The Juniors / Lost Friend / 196?

The Music Explosion / Little Black Egg / 1967

The Nightcrawlers / The Last Ship / 1967

Joe Diamond / Fair Play /1963 (This is a soul number, but check out that autoharp! what a tune!)

Hello,

Oh, and I am going to eventually update the link section one of these days, do you want in? I’ll do it.

I am thinking about getting a new pair of headphones, a damn good pair, do you have any recommendations? I was thinking about getting another pair of Grado Headphones, maybe these, but I need to do a bit more research I suppose before I drop bookoo bucks. The pair I have right now, also Grado, have been very good to me but are over ten years old and are starting to break down a bit and I’ll take any excuse to buy new headphones.

Well, I’m sure you’ll dig this set of music up above. It’s kind of an amalgamation of music I have discovered over the last few weeks. The Fallen Angels album, “It’s a Long Way Down”, gets heavy rotation in this set as it is one of the most amazing albums I’ve come across in quite awhile. There is a relatively inexpensive reissue out there that is worth getting.

Bye,

Here’s a two-part set I did last week on the radio…It was a good one, a touch of psych and a pinch of folk blended into a mind-melting pre-christmas stone-out. There are a lot of gems in these sets. I’ve been totally blown away by Jim Sullivan’s psych-folk album “U.F.O.” and a cut off of that is in here. Another album, and one that can be found easily, is the album “A Lovely Sight” by a group hitherto unknown named “Pisces”. It’s astonishing that an album as good as this could remain in absolute obscurity for almost 40 years until a recent re-issue. They possess all the juicy parts of The Jefferson Airplane with a slight Velvet Underground edge… I compel you to hunt down their album!

Oh, and I came across an album the other day by Bill Clint…A super depressing loner/downer folk album called “The Crying of a Generation”. I don’t have any problems with the music itself, it’s actually very good and melodic with John Denver-esque vocals, but the subject matter is so goldarned sad that I have trouble listening to the entire album straight through. Point in case, listen to this track, “Angels Don’t Need Friends”, and tell me you don’t feel a slight twinge of sickness in your gut around the 8-minute mark when Bill Clint starts crying, really starts crying! blubbering to be exact. Seriously, that is some downer-folk, seriously.

Thanks for stopping by, Collin
